Reggio Emilia is a bike-friendly city.
You will see many busy citizens cycling around the old city center using the bike sharing system – you can buy the “Mi Muovo” card in TIL, via Trento Trieste (HYPERLINK “http://www.mimuovoinbici.it/”www.mimuovoinbici.it) – or just using their colorful bikes, often equipped with cute wicker baskets for every day shopping.
Yet, if you prefer nature cycling trips you must try the Crostolo river cycle lane: it is a very relaxing path just outside the city center, suitable for all ages and training levels with little height difference and half shaded by trees.
The path follows both sides of the river Crostolo and in 25 km, often doable in less than 1 h 30, you will get to Vezzano sul Crostolo and back to Reggio; because of the water closeness, it is possible to see little animals, reptiles and birds.
If you don’t have a bike and you don’t wish to rent one, you can easily follow the cycle lane walking: it is just as beautiful! For mountain bike well-trained lovers only: from Vezzano sul Crostolo the ride can continue with an exciting ascent to Monte del Gesso, 8.80 km, 35 minutes uphill, totally worth it.
